“The next day John was there again with two of his disciples. When he saw Jesus passing by, he said “Look, the Lamb of God.” When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following an asked “What do you want?” They said, “Rabbi, Where are you staying?” “Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” So they went and saw where he was staying, and they spend that day with him. It was about four in the afternoon. Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas (Peter). The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, “Follow me.” John 1:35-43 (NIV) Now, I’m sure that if Jesus was walking down the street and said “Come and See!” We would all go without hesitation. Our curiosity and awe of being around Jesus would be too great not to. In June, the church allowed me to go to Annual Conference to represent our church. Thank you all for that honor. I really learned a lot about the Methodist way of doing things and it was a great learning experience for me. BUT.....the single best part was the keynote speaker, who spoke about “Come and See”. In his talk, he addressed those that are skeptical about things. It could be someone who is unchurched and doesn’t understand what church is all about. It could be someone who has been a member for 20+ years, who has become jaded and doesn’t think doing anything new would be good for the church. I can speak about Spiritual Skeptics because I use to be one. And if I’m honest, depending on the day, I may even have a touch of it every once in a while. Come and See is a concept that is amazing when you think about it. Remember when you were a little kid and your friend would call you and say “You have to come and see this cool toy I got.” Your curiosity was so great that you immediately went to see. Or what about when you wanted someone to see something and they didn’t want to come over and told you to just tell them what it was and you would say“ No, you have to come and see.” There was a 50% chance you would get there and it wouldn’t be as cool as you’d been led to believe.......but there was also a 50% chance that it would be!!! That’s what a skeptic sometimes forgets. We may think it couldn’t possibly work but there is the chance it will be more than we imagined. We hope Come and See will start a new era at our church. We want to tell the unchurched and members to Come and See what is going on at our church. We want to start new ministries and increase the numbers in the ones that we already have in place. We want to be able to say “Look what is going on at our church” and we want people to be so unbelievably curious that they just can’t stay away. It will take all of us. It will take all the gifts and talents that God has put in this church, but if we work together and we give it our best...and we all remember that it takes all of us, well, Come and See will just be our way of showing the community and ourselves what we’ve always known....that FUMC Snyder is an awesome place full of active disciples making other disciples!!!! -Leslie Moorman
